TPI innovation network: virtual human for safety assessments

The partners in this network are working on the design of a conceptual framework for safety assessment based on animal-free innovation.

Our point of departure is the human body rather than the laboratory animal. We are investigating various animal-free innovations for different systems of organs. How can we use them to assess the safety of chemicals and medicines? What are the latest developments in the field of data, e.g. machine learning and artificial intelligence?

Eventually, we want to arrive at a “virtual human for safety assessments”: a model of the human organism that can be used for testing as if it were a real human.

This innovation network is coordinated by RIVM.
